Saberes Ancestrales y Cambio Climático
Illustrations for a 10 Volume book collection documenting the ancestral knowledge and practices of the Licanantay and Quechua peoples of San Pedro de Atacama, and their relevance to climate change mitigation today. I created over 100 illustrations across the collection, working in close, ongoing dialogue with the project's research team to ensure each image reflected the cultural and ecological content accurately.
Editorial design and art direction were led by Zooma Studio, research was led by Daniela Díaz, and photography was provided by Munay Studio.
Process
The illustration work spanned over a year. Representing living traditions respectfully required more than visual reference — it meant an extended research process grounded in direct conversation with the Licanantay and Quechua communities themselves, so that each piece would genuinely resonate with the people it represents rather than simply depict them from the outside. Every illustration was developed using a combination of digital and analog technique, chosen to suit the specific demands of editorial production across a ten-volume collection.
